“B is for Baldwin: An Alphabet Tour of the Baldwin Library of Historical Children’s Literature” took home the silver medal at this year’s Florida Book Awards.
Established in 2006, The Florida Book Awards is coordinated by the Florida State University Libraries and is the nation’s most comprehensive state book awards program to celebrate the best of Florida literature. The 17th annual competition featured 150 eligible publications submitted across 11 categories for books published in 2022.
The Baldwin Library of Historical Children’s Literature is one of the largest collections of children’s books in the world, with more than 120,000 books and periodicals published in the United States and Great Britain from the mid-1600s to present day. The Library also has small holdings manuscript collections, original artwork, and assorted ephemera such as board games, puzzles, and toys.
This lushly illustrated volume offers a glimpse into rarities and wonders of the Baldwin Library. The volume’s entries explore important children’s books as well as the field of children’s literature and was designed and published by the LibraryPress@UF. The LibraryPress@UF engages in library publishing as a collaborative endeavor.
